Hannah has been selected as a finalist in both the Acoustic/Singer-Songwriter & Blues / Roots categories of the Musicoz competition for Australian unsigned artists. Winners will be announced at the Sydney Opera House on Tuesday May 15. Exciting!!

Hannah's song "Unlearn You" won the $500 prize for the best song on the night at the Tomorrow's Hits Today (Music Managers Forum)!

There was a panel of industry experts provided professional feedback on songs. The panel responded well to the song & made some lovely comments. Cool right!

I'm performing with my very talented brother tomorrow night in Melbourne as part of Songwriters in the round! Looking forward to catching up and singing with him!

Have a sneak peak at us singing together here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iErFKbx3e7M

What they’ve been saying about ‘Songwriters in the Round’:

“Taking on the form of a good old-fashioned round robin, Melting Pot provides its lucky patrons with this ambience – mixing up the traditional notions of live music with a unique concept.” (Laneway Magazine, Dec 2010)

“A casual, intimate evening in which musicians take it in turns to share songs, ideas and share what they create.” (Beat Magazine, Dec 2010)

2011 already? It's amazing how quickly last year flew by!

My 2010 highlights were:

*Recording & Releasing "Where You Once Lay"

*Singing for Clare Bowditch & Robert Forster

*Songwriting with Jen Cloher http://www.jencloher.com Davey Lane (You Am I)www.myspace.com/davey_lane and Charles Jenkins www.myspace.com/jenkinscharles

*Doing my first proper tour

Ahhh it sure was good!

What has 2011 got in store for me?

I'm in the process of planning to record a whole album (fingers crossed all goes to plan). A very exciting prospect indeed! I will also be writing some material with my brother Dan for our duo. Can't wait! New music, new cd, new people and new places.

I'm focusing on writing at the moment but my next show is at the Lake Bolac Eel Festival March 26. More details via the facebook event pagewww.facebook.com/pages/Hannah-Acfield/13135792346

Radar Radio(Austereo) added me to their playlist (YES!). Please drop by and 'like' so hopefully I get more airplay http://www.radarradio.com.au/on-air/ . Austereo uses radar radio as a 'trial' for the REAL radio stations (fox, triple m etc).

And finally I would really love to win this competition - I've entered my song "Unlearn You". The prize is a keyboard (oh how I'd LOVE a keyboard). If you could spare a couple of minutes to vote that would be wonderful!http://www.whotune.com/#page=competitions

Thank you for all your support over the last couple of years. All your help and support has been so wonderful!

Are up on facebook. Some great shots! http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=h#!/album.php?aid=578782&id=66383410200

A big thank you to everyone who has pre-ordered - you will receive your SIGNED copy in the mail just before the official release date. 'Unlearn You' which is now available in full for listening, is the song I was lucky enough to play for Clare Bowditch & Robert Forster at the Song Summit 2010, both said it was beautiful! I'm back home in Melbourne, I've spent the last couple of weeks up in QLD recording my next EP with Brendan Anthony. Everything ran smoothly, we had no hiccups and it's sounding great! I wanted this recording to emulate my current gigging style, more laid back and acoustic. Brendan still has to finish off some keys (due to an out of tune piano) and will start mixing the record next week. I'm really proud of the songs we recorded. One of the days, when recording guitars, there was about 10 different guitars in the studio, maybe even more than that. I think my favorite was one of Brendan's guitars nicknamed "Elvis". It's an old 50's acoustic guitar with a jangly kind of sound. We used that one a couple of tracks. Ah the Elvis! We also used my late grandfather's 1930's Gibson acoustic - I think he'd be chuffed it was used for a recording. Oh and we also used an acoustic that Ian Moss (cold chisel) gave Brendan. That's right - I've now played a guitar that Ian Moss played - I have his guitar germs (hopefully skills can be passed through guitar germs). Overall I'm really excited about this recording. I think you'll like it! It's in the same vein as The Waifs / Missy Higgins. Acoustic and lovely. A big thanks to all the musicians who leant their musicial talent! Hannah xo

I walked into the very cool, ambient lit Wesley Anne and was immediately impressed by the venue. It’s got two rooms, one with a big stage, red curtains, lots of candles and plenty of room. The first person I saw was my cousin Rachael, who thought my gig was the night before and she’d missed it BUT coincidently, Rach just happened to be the Wesley Anne for dinner as the same night I was playing! Crazy! I was due to open the night at about 8.30 but we couldn’t get the PA to work at all, so by the time I actually went on I had to cut down my set due to time restrictions. When I was nearing the end of my set, at the peak of “My Tomorrow” (just before the yodelling type bit) the PA cut out completely, no sound at all – silence. I just had to wait it out and eventually the sound came back. I found out afterwards that the Wesley has noise restrictions and when the sound reaches a certain decibel the PA cuts out for 6 seconds, hence the silence. I felt so sorry for the sound guy (he’d never worked at the Wesley Anne before) everyone was giving him evil stares because they thought it was his fault it cut out! In the end it was all good – the crowd didn’t mind, I wasn’t booed off stage. Morgan, on tour from WA organised the night and played after me. She definitely captivated the crowd with her beautiful voice and great songs. Morgan uses one of those loop pedals, recording different sounds that play back while you’re playing. This meant that she was able to sing harmonies and create extra rhythms as a solo musician. Great show! The final act of the night was Renee Cassar, another lovely Melbourne local. She played as a duo with another guitarist and it sounded awesome. Renee has some really catchy songs and a very unique voice. Overall, despite the sound issues, I had a great time and met lots of friendly people. A big shout out to the big crowd Ad bought along! Cheers to everyone who made it such a fabulous night. Thanks. Hannah xo
I've got my first solo gig in Melbourne on Saturday May 31st @ the Wesley Ann in Northcote supporting Morgan (WA) and Renee Cassar (Melb). Doors open @ 8pm $6 entry. So for those of you who live here and for those who might be visiting it would be lovely to see you there!
There were lots of tears last weekend when I said goodbye to all friends and family in Brisbane. The only one that wasn't crying was the dog! Thanks Sarah for driving us to the airport - don't think the parents would have coped (that's my story anyway). The weather here was a bit of a shock to the system. I've had to stash my thongs away until summer. Can't wear thongs in winter like Brisbane! I'm excited about getting stuck into some Melbourne music. There are heaps of cool venues and lots of talented muso's. Will post some gigs soon!
Thanks to all my friends, family, fans and friends of friends who came along to the CD launch at the Globe last night - especially those who travelled any kind of distance. A big thanks to Esther Owen who opened and the Dan Acfield Band who closed the night. Thanks to Trae and Gee for your beautiful backing vocals, ben and his bass, luke and his guitar and joel and his drums! A special thanks to my mum who also got up and sang a song with me. It was definitely a night to remember and the perfect last gig before heading off to Melbourne.
" My Tomorrow" is the first single of the EP - YAY! It's available on the only by purchasing a copy of the ""My Tomorrow EP". The song is a story about the time I got mugged at a train station a couple of years ago. I was very lucky that it wasn't worse. Get in quick and grab a copy - limited signed copies available.
